The exchange server is set not to delete any mails from the server. Its the info security rule as well as some forensic needs, and thus we are running out of space on the server. We want a mechanism to backup the deleted mails of each user.(IF possible hard as well as soft delete). Such that when needed we can link it back to the account.

Use the Export-Mailbox command to export the desired data along with the -DeleteContent flag to remove the data once the export is done. I don't believe that will work, because part of the request was to export the items in the dumpster as well. Export-mailbox to a PST in 2007 won't do that. You could export to a temp mailbox to recover the deleted items, then export the temp mailbox to a pst once recovered. Export-Mailbox -Identity SourceMailbox -TargetMailbox TempMailbox -TargetFolder FolderNameInTempMailbox -includefolders "\deleted items" 1. run this from a workstation with outlook and the Exchange 2007 management tools installed. 2. If the outlook client is prior to Outlook 2007, then set the dumpsteralways on registry key. This will recover the deleted items into the temp mailbox to include hard deleted items deleted AFTER the reg key was set. Of course there are third party tools to do this as well. Lucid8, Quest, Kroll, etc... which are a lot simpler to use. John

Hi, As already mentioned above, you can use Export-Mailbox command to export the wanted data. In Exchange server 2007, it is possible to use export mailbox to a PST.
